about us - how it all began

The 1st Husky decides whether or not you fall in love with this "crazy" breed

09/27/2011 I created and published the first homepage. Now, in February 2021, I am in the process of incorporating and redesigning the "old" homepage in a new design. I can now look back on almost 22 years - joy and sorrow - with our Siberian Huskies. In 1999, none of us had any idea that we could become so addicted to this dog breed. There are currently 13 huskies living with us.

This started with my husband's wish after he saw a report about Siberian Huskies. This was the reason to visit a sled dog race with our children (then 10 and 7 years old).

The atmosphere at this race was simply breathtaking. The howling of the dogs, which were already looking forward to the upcoming race while putting on the racing harness, captivated us from the beginning. All family members were actively involved in caring for the dogs. This in turn was fascinating for me and also corresponded to my ideas of a hobby. It was an activity for the whole family. Very different from other hobbies where there is a player and the parents are more of a spectator or driver.

These dogs are not only beautiful. They also have a friendly disposition, are very spirited, working and cuddly animals and above all family dogs, which are happy about every free hand that strokes and scratches them.

This race was decisive for buying our first Siberian Husky in the spring of 1999. With the purchase of our Fine we got to know Mike and Kerstin Blaszynski. This litter was more of an "accident" that happened during a phone call. As you can see, that "accident" in 1999 changed our entire lives.

Before purchasing, we did a lot of research on this breed of dog. We knew that these dogs are real bundles of energy and very spirited. Our fine showed us this every day. Even as puppies, these dogs are very spirited. We gave the word spirited a degree of gradation - "spirited to the power of 100" (as in math). The chain link fence had to be replaced with a more stable fence after a short time. Furthermore, we had to make the whole property escape-proof, both upwards and downwards. In short, we are now building a small fortress. Nevertheless, our "freedom-loving" Fine always managed to achieve the much-desired "freedom". Being "locked up" in the kennel was always an abomination to her up to her old age (12 years). No effort was too great for her to climb the fence. She just climbed over and then lay in the spout. I had never seen a climbing dog up to that point. Our fine had the "turn just out". In autumn 1999 we bought a second Husky to counteract Fine's "bore time". With our Dakota this didn't get any better either. On the contrary. It's like with children, what the ONE does not know and can definitely succeed in the SECOND. It was the same with our two huskies – FINE and DAKOTA.

Since driving a car is definitely more fun than riding a bike, we decided to enlarge our pack to 4 huskies. The property had meanwhile been converted into a fortress anyway, so nothing stood in the way of it. Our Benny, which we bought as a pity from bad circumstances, should enlarge our pack in the following year - 2000. Our fine continued to climb out of the kennel, the others just watched "howling".

When we loosened the lines, all 3 huskies ran away from us during a walk. In the beginning they kept coming back for a treat. After 2-3 times the treat wasn't that important anymore. The urge for freedom was greater. Despite shouting and running after it, we were not able to catch the dogs again. In a completely opposite direction (about 5 km away) they caused an accident and a police operation. Our Fine was slightly injured in this accident and there was no trace of Dakota and Benny. With the help of a driver, we were then able to recapture Dakota. We continued to look for Benny in vain. We drove home without Benny. Dakota yelped all night and used the yelp to show Benny (still a puppy) the way home. None of us could even sleep that night. He finally got back to us around midnight. The children's tears dried up when we were finally able to hug Benny again. We have learned from this experience. A husky without a leash does not walk. We never loosened the lines again. Unfortunately, our Benny was not with us for long. He died that same year.

In 2001 my daughter and I actually only wanted to see a puppy (in Thuringia). When we got back home around midnight, I introduced my husband to our Baya. This was a beautiful wolf gray bitch, my dream. Baya moved in with us in 2001. Baya was almost 15 weeks old when she was bought. She hadn't taken the separation from her pack so easily and whimpered for a long time. The puppies always sleep in the house the first night with our children. Only then are they integrated into their “new” pack. The pack integration always went without problems. The puppies were always immediately and lovingly received by the "old" pack members. In 2002 we got our Funny from the kennel "vom Betuniensteg" from Helmut and Christa Hamann. We still have very close contact with Helmut and Christa Hamann today. They have We were often given professional support in the period that followed. With Funny, our pack planning came to an end for the time being. Our daughter spent her afternoon nap outdoors as often as she could - with her Funny - so that she was completely focused on her.

Now we had bought a training car. Since we still lacked the other equipment (pick-up and caravan), we could only take part in races that had taken place in our area. We had and still have a friendly relationship with Mike and Kerstin. They were always the first port of call for us at races. They were the ones who welcomed us into the musher family.

In 2004 we bought a house, which we then converted and expanded. In 2008 the major work on the building was finished. My husband now wanted to expand his "older pack". Our new kennel provided enough space and was only rarely used by the "older" ladies. Furthermore, we wanted to stay true to the hobby we had grown fond of. The love for this breed and the animals has not dried up yet. The opposite is the case. The children, who are more and more fledged, push us further and further into this fascinating sport. Here we see our further task and obligation, which allows us to flourish and grow.

In 2008 we bought our Nury, also from the kennel of Helmut and Christa Hamann. We had already bought our Funny from Helmut and Christa. We informed both of us immediately about our further request. In total we would like to acquire 4 bitches in the next 2 years.

In 2009 Onik was accepted into our pack, also from the kennel of Helmut and Christa Hamann. Now we were only missing 2 bitches. Then our group of 4 youth would be complete. Since Helmut and Christa were also planning a litter in 2010, we registered right away. Now we waited impatiently for the offspring again.

    unser Huskygespann 2010

    Button

In 2010 there was unfortunately only one female pup in the litter, our Pearly. Unfortunately, our wish did not come true. Sometimes everything just turns out differently and somehow new paths come together. Paths that will change your whole life. Because this in turn was the trigger to breed one day. More and more we both worked our way into this dream, which grew more and more into a great wish. We now had 3 young bitches with a good pedigree. They were healthy, fast and beautiful at the same time. So why shouldn't we breed ourselves? There was also enough space. Due to my shift work, however, this could not be managed on my own, so that we still needed reliable help. My daughter still lives at home and is just as “infected” with the husky virus as we are. Since she also works in shifts, my mother-in-law has agreed to actively support us in this project. That was the starting signal for us. The kennel was expanded again. The kennel acceptance took place and we applied for a kennel name. Almost at the same time, our (Sch) Nury was being prepared for breeding (HD X-ray, eye examination and licensing). My husband diligently built the whelping box and we couldn't wait to finally see our own puppies grow up. Christa Hamann, who already has many years of breeding experience, actively supported us during this time. They are always the first point of contact for us with questions and problems and are always a great help. You have always supported us from the beginning of our breeding desire -, the whole breeding preparations, the search for a male, the birth and rearing. You are more than welcome to share your experience with us. You are always a great role model for us.

Our Nury took his time with the heat and we hoped and waited. Time X finally came. On August 14th, 2011 we drove with her to the stud dog. It was not only the first time for our Nury, but also for us. This was just impressive. Nury was overjoyed (after mating). We had never seen her so "freaked out". So that was done now. Now a strenuous time began again. The time of waiting and hoping. Hoping if the mating was successful. And this was him. The ultrasound examination on 09/13/2011 delivered clear results. Our (Sch)Nury gave birth to 6 healthy puppies on November 16th, 2011. We were overjoyed and proud to be able to experience this. We would have kept all the puppies. With the help of Christa and Helmut Hamann we were able to place 4 puppies in good musher hands. That's how we got to know Michaela and Sven and also Steffi and Bernd Giebler. Christa and Helmut Hamann also took over 2 puppies.

In 2011 we bought a Nissan Navara. The aim was to place a large dog box on this loading area. In 2012, a further increase in equipment was necessary in order not only to be able to practice dog sports together, but also to be able to go on vacation together. As the pack members grew, we were no longer able or willing to go on vacation alone. The holiday developed without dogs to agony.

The required "tailor-made" top box was made by the company WT Metall. On 09.07.12 the time had finally come. We were able to pick up our Nissan with the attached box and were now mobile with our 6 dogs. Now we could experience the racing feeling live. In order to get the dogs used to driving in the car, "test drives" were first completed. A caravan is also required for the race weekends. We then bought this on 09/22/2012. Now it could finally start. All the equipment was now available. We completed our first race on October 27th and 28th, 2012 in Calvörde (near Bülstringen).

In 2013 we received breeding approval for our Onik. On October 6th, 2013 she gave birth to 4 healthy puppies. We kept 2 males and 1 female from this litter. Our original pack of women has now become a mixed pack, so that in 2013 - an expansion of the kennel became necessary. In 2013 our pack had grown to 10 members.

In 2013 we had to convert our existing kennel for the first time for our mixed pack. The heat of our 8 ladies was imminent, so that a separation became necessary.

Luckily, the fence panels were delivered on time, so that my husband could spend his 3rd vacation day completing the new kennel. Luckily the weather cooperated - not too warm and no rain.

In 2014 we received the breeding license for our Branko. Our Cayden - our C-litter - 09/21/2014 comes from the pairing Nury-Chocolat vom Betuniensteg & Branko -Shadow of Nordic Fire. The birth was not so easy for Lieder. There were complications and we got to know the dark side of breeding. Many tears shed and we got to a point where sadness prevailed. Angela Wiatowski supported us during this difficult time. Nury and our 5 day old Cayden were taken and cared for by her. Both survived thanks to their help. This was the beginning for our daughter – as a musher. Cayden is her greatest treasure in life. She trained Cayden to be a wonderful leader, all by herself.

Our D-litter was born on October 4th, 2016. Onik again gave birth to 4 healthy puppies. Again there were 1 female and 3 males. Our daughter fell in love with one male – Dandy. She wanted Dandy to strengthen the team and that's what he became. In 2016, we also experienced a change of orientation. We would not only like to do sprint races, but now do long-distance tours. So we specifically looked for a breeding line that is suitable for long distances. Here we came across the Anadyr breeding line. It was now difficult to find a suitable stud dog from this line, since this American line is not or hardly represented in Germany. During this very long search we got to know Kira and Kalle Wiebe. You imported Alaskan´s LAPP of Anadyr. Our Djuna comes from this mating, which we also kept as a breeding bitch.

2017 – Our pack has now grown to 11 huskies

2017 - was the year of the dog for us - EVERYTHING was purchased or expanded FOR OUR 11 HUSKIES. Numerous measures were necessary for our "grown" pack. Not only the car - dog transporter - had to be renewed, but also the kennel was enormously expanded. We got an Opel Movano, which was expanded with the help of Erhard Feikert. The car now offers space for 13-14 dogs. We also built a new puppy kennel. For this purpose, a desert flower bed was abolished. At the sight of the new kennel - our eyes light up every time. He looks great and our dogs feel good too. Unfortunately, the litter did not work out in 2017 - the kennel was actually supposed to be used as a puppy kennel. Well, there will definitely be another year - when puppies will romp around there. Of course, our dogs are always present when the new kennel is being built, which you can see in the pictures. While my husband is still pottering around in the floodlights, the dogs are curiously examining everything again. The other part is already making itself comfortable on the couch by the fire!

Another section of the kennel (run) was completed in 2018. This new spout was then connected to the original spout. Working arduously alone, my husband worked daily on the edge fortifications, which this time extended over approx. 150 meters. A lot of love and new ideas always flow into these projects to make it as comfortable as possible for the dogs.

Finally our dogs can live in another area. Now the almost 3,000 m² property has been developed by our dogs. They not only inhabit the "outer" property, but also the yard, the stable and not to forget our hearts.

All that is left is a small garden and usable area, which will also give way if our wish comes true. Then another 2 kennels are to be built here. My husband, as tried and tested as he is in building kennels, can then continue to develop. Let's see if it works. If you're wondering: "How do they do it?" No, we didn't win the lottery. My husband's purse is visible in a picture. He moves with her to the garden when the cuckoo calls for the first time to rattle his purse. After all, the cuckoo is said to have fortune-telling powers, including … when the cuckoo calls, you should shake your wallet so that you never run out of money. My husband informed me yesterday that he practices this every year. I don't need to worry or be surprised anymore. Anyone who discovers the Gehrden church tower among the many building pictures - .... a stork landed here. We hope that he will give us puppies this year. We've definitely placed an order before.

In 2004, when we moved into our new house, I never expected that the number of dogs would grow so much. If a fortune teller had predicted this for me, I would probably have thrown the ball away because it was defective. Dogs take up most of our lives and this is an incredible asset.

O´Torvi - Voykan Wakanda Kennel

Unfortunately we didn't have our own litter this year (2018). In order to keep our pack "age-wise" and refresh it, we decided to buy a bitch.

Entry into our pack

On 09/08/18 we were finally able to pick up our Torvi from France. My husband set off for France with Kalle Wiebe. 1111 km including countless construction sites lay ahead of them before they finally reached their destination at 4:30 p.m. At this point we would like to thank Kalle Wiebe again for the ride. This weekend my husband was able to see his little Torvi "live" for the first time and also to hold him in his arms. He was also able to get to know the breeder Aurelie, who lovingly took care of the little ones the whole time. WhatsApp and Facebook made it possible for us to take part in the development of the puppies. Even communication with modern media is "easy as pie" nowadays and no longer a problem at all. Thank you Aurelie for the hospitality. On September 9th, 2018 we went back home. Luckily the two puppies, Floki and Torvi, were able to snuggle up a little while driving home. It was only at the rest area in Harz that they parted ways.

Around 7:00 p.m. they finally arrived home, which my daughter and I had been longing for. The integration into the pack took place step by step and in groups. The integration into the existing herd turned out to be problem-free. Torvi already mastered the general rules of behavior towards the adult dogs and has properly subordinated and classified himself. However, since Torvi was too homesick, my husband spent the first 3 nights with Torvi on the dog couch in the stable. This also strengthens the bond between musher and dog again and again. She is completely fixated on my husband and "calibrated", although I always give her the food. Well, if only she knew that next year she won't be on his arm anymore, but will be stretched in front of the wagon ... and have to pull him. She now moves freely on our premises and has accepted the "new" domestic processes well. She also knows certain short commands now... now in German. She is bright and learns very quickly.

After a very intensive search, we finally found a suitable stud dog for our breeding bitch Djuna - Anadyr line. The modern media, Facebook and now also the many contacts have made it possible for us to find the stud dog Komaksiut's Tuulik. He comes from Holland, has the Anadyr lineage, which we would like to continue. Our Djuna gave birth to our E-litter on December 29th, 2019. Just like her mother Onik, she gave birth to 4 puppies (also 1 female and 3 males). The birth was very spectacular, very exhausting and nerve-wracking. The development of the puppies is fantastic again. The puppies are now 1 year and we will definitely repeat this litter.

2020 was the Corona year. During our "garden inspection" we noticed that there is actually still a little garden patch with flowers. This is now also being converted – as an outlet. We ordered the materials in December 2020 so that a new dog run can be built in 2021.

In December 2020, our women's heat stopped completely unexpectedly and much too early. Since all races and training meetings were canceled anyway, we admitted Djuna again with Komaksiut's Tuulik. On February 25th, 2021 our F-litter saw the light of day. Our Djuna gave birth to 5 females and 2 males. We are proud and overjoyed again.
